About our Parkersburg Branch School
Tae Kwon Do is an ancient Korean martial art. It is a form of self-defense which includes blocks and punches, while putting greater
emphasis on kicking techniques. The translation for Tae Kwon Do is “the way of the hands and feet”. The Parkersburg Branch School
of S. H. Kang’s Tae Kwon Do Association teaches traditional Moo Duk Kwan Tae Kwon Do. Students take part in many aspects of Tae
Kwon Do. Forms are a major part of the martial art. A form is a set of moves choreographed in a way that resembles a defense against
multiple opponents. The most recognized part of class is sparring or better known as free fighting. This helps the student to face their
fears and the anxiety of an actual fight in a controlled setting. A more exciting component to training in Tae Kwon Do is board breaking.
This is a fun way of testing one’s own technique and is often used for competition and demonstration. There are several benefits
associated with this martial art, both expected and unexpected. Physical fitness benefits include balance, flexibility, weight control,
speed and strength. Not so obvious mental benefits are gained as well. These include traits such as confidence, respect, lower stress
levels and humility. Our goal at this school is to work within everyone’s limitations and help them to attain their own personal best.

Master Chuck Hannah is a 7th degree black belt.  He is Grand Master Sok Ho Kang's highest ranking black belt and the Association
